What is Capacities?

Capacities is a note-taking and Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) app that adopts an object-based approach rather than traditional folders or files. In it, each note is treated as a structured entity (a "Book," a "Person," an "Idea," a "Media"). Capacities integrates native artificial intelligence features (Capacities AI) to help users organize loose thoughts, summarize long texts, generate new blocks of content, and create automatic semantic connections within their digital brain.

How it works

The platform organizes notes by linking them bidirectionally in a knowledge graph similar to Obsidian or Roam Research, but focused on user-defined object types. The artificial intelligence assistant can be activated at any time within a note by typing quick commands. The AI reads the context of the linked objects and suggests connections, extracts summaries from imported articles, drafts emails, or answers questions based purely on the data you have already saved in the app.

Key Features

  • Object-Based Management: Structure your notes into specific content types with custom properties.
  • Knowledge Graph: Interactive visualization of how your notes relate non-linearly.
  • Integrated AI Assistant: Text generation, direct translation, rewriting, and summaries of saved content.
  • Quick Send via WhatsApp/Telegram: Native integration to send voice notes or photos directly to your Capacities inbox.
  • Advanced Semantic Search: Locate information not just by exact keywords, but by conceptual meaning.

Available Integrations

Capacities focuses on data consolidation and offers practical integrations for capturing:

  • WhatsApp and Telegram (for quickly sending messages/media to the inbox).
  • Readwise (automatic synchronization of book and article highlights).
  • Web Browsers (through web clipper extensions).

Who is it for?

  • Researchers, Writers, and Academics dealing with large volumes of references and connections between concepts.
  • Students wishing to build a unified database for their studies over the years.
  • Creative Professionals needing a flexible place to collect daily inspirations, meeting notes, and articles.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • The object-based structure avoids the typical clutter of folder systems.
  • Modern, fast, and visually pleasing interface.
  • Excellent handling of attached media (images, PDFs, bookmarks).

Cons:

  • Moderate initial learning curve to understand the object-oriented logic.
  • The free plan does not have full access to cutting-edge AI models.

Alternatives to Capacities

The main alternatives in the second brain and note management category are Anytype, Notion, Obsidian, Craft, and Tana (very similar in its structured approach).
