What is Krisp?
Krisp (Krisp.ai) is a real-time productivity and audio processing application founded in 2017 by Davit Baghdasaryan and Artavazd Minasyan. The tool became one of the most successful solutions for remote workers and companies during the global transition to work from home, standing out for using deep neural networks to remove unwanted background noise (barking dogs, construction, keyboard typing) and third-party voices from the microphone and speaker signal during videoconferences.
How it works
Krisp is installed locally on the computer (Windows or macOS) and works as a virtual hardware bridge: it creates a virtual microphone and speaker in the operating system. When opening a videoconferencing software (like Zoom or Google Meet), the user selects "Krisp Microphone" in the audio settings. When the user speaks, Krisp's artificial intelligence — executed locally and privately on the computer's CPU — analyzes the sound waves instantly, isolates the speaker's main voice, and surgically erases any other background sound before sending the clean audio to the call.
Key features
- Bi-directional Noise Cancellation: Removes background noise from your own microphone and also filters out unwanted noises coming from other people's microphones in the meeting.
- Background Voice Cancellation: Intelligent algorithm that identifies the main speaker's voice pattern and erases the voice of other people talking in the same environment (e.g., in coffee shops or shared offices).
- Echo Cancellation: Eliminates the unpleasant acoustic feedback generated by empty walls or use of microphones and speakers on the same laptop.
- Meeting Transcription and Summaries: In addition to audio, Krisp transcribes the call in real time and generates structured minutes with key points and decided tasks.
- Call Quality Metrics: Weekly reports showing total meeting time, active listening time, and amount of noise filtered by the AI.
Available integrations
Because it operates as an audio driver at the operating system level, Krisp is compatible with virtually any app that uses a microphone on the computer, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Slack, Discord, Webex, Skype and call center telephony software.
Who it is for
- Home office professionals and freelancers who conduct meetings from noisy environments (coffee shops, airports, or homes with children and pets).
- Customer support agents and call centers who need to ensure clear and professional voice communication to customers.
- Podcasters and content creators for fast, noise-free recording of audio and remote interviews.
Real-world use cases
- Sales Presentation at the Airport: A sales representative needs to present an urgent proposal via Zoom from the airport lobby. With Krisp activated, the client hears only the clear voice of the representative, while the airport announcements and people's chatter are 100% silenced.
- Team Meeting Without Headphones: A developer makes a speakerphone call in an echoey room. Krisp cuts the audio feedback and echo, allowing the team to listen to the speech cleanly and comfortably.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Audio processing occurs locally on the computer, maintaining conversation privacy without sending audios to third-party servers.
- Extremely effective noise cancellation, capable of silencing loud sounds impressively.
- Works natively in any communication app.
Cons:
- Local processing of deep neural networks can consume additional CPU processing, which may reduce battery life on older laptops.
- The free plan is restricted to 60 daily minutes.
